Detailed Itinerary of the 5 days Uganda Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Kibale National Park From Kampala

This 5 days Uganda gorilla Safari departs from Kampala after breakfast on day 1. Our diver guide will transfer you  to kibale National Park, driving through the papyrus swamps and dense jungles of the Nile Delta area.

Reaching Kibale National Park  in Western Uganda, at the edge of the Rwenzori mountains, we proceed for a guided nature walk in the afternoon at the bigodi swamp. We will also explore the crater lakes of the national park as well as the local culture.

Day 2: Kibale Chimpanzee Trekking & Queen Elizabeth National – Uganda

Our day 2 of the 5 days Uganda gorilla safari kick starts with an early morning breakfast then to Kibale national park headquarters- Kanyanchu visitors center for briefing about the do’s and don’ts for chimpanzee trekking and tracking. The ranger guide will then allocate you in a group, after then you will head off on foot to track the chimpanzees of Kibale National Park, home to an impressive more than 1500 chimpanzees.

The thick forest of Kibale national Park are considered the best place to view chimpanzees in Africa. The guided walk offers a great opportunity to learn more about chimpanzees and other primates, besides the various mammals of the jungle.

On Finding them, you will be allowed to interact with them for a maximum time of 1 hour, and then get back to the headquarters for certificates

5 days uganda safariThe chimpanzees are often found feeding on fig tree fruits in the national park and have been habituated to humans. Kibale National Park spans a total area of 795 km² of mostly equatorial rainforest terrain. This national park is home to different forest wildlife species, with chimpanzees boasting one of the highest population of primates in the world. The 13 primate species include the rare I’Hoest’s monkey, black-and-white colobus monkeys, red colobus monkeys, red-tailed and blue monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabey and bushbabies.

After your Chimpanzee tracking, Proceed for lunch at the lodge, and later on  travel south to the Queen Elizabeth National Park, taking in the sights and looking out for animals as you transfer. In the afternoon we embark on a two-hour boat ride on the Kazinga Channel, getting up close to hippos, buffalos and other wildlife. The boat trip offers wonderful bird watching opportunities, as well as the chance to see elephants, buffaloes, hippos among others. The banks of the channel are home to a rich variety of birds, like the Pink-backed Pelicans, Pied and Malachite Kingfishers and Saddle billed Stork.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s most famous protected area and covers approximately 1978 km². The park is strategically located on the rift valley floor between Lake Edward and Lake George flanked by towering mountains in the distance. The varied habitats within Queen Elizabeth National Park host 95 mammal and 612 bird species.

Day 3: Queen Elizabeth Park to Bwindi Forest – Uganda

Wake up early for a cup of hot coffee on an early morning drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and head for a morning game drive along Kasenyi and Queens Mile.

Wildlife sightings include elephants, lions, buffalo, Ugandan kob, waterbuck, warthogs and many birds. Next our journey leads us along the magnificent craters of the western Rift Valley escarpment and the Ishasha section of Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will be driven through the Isasha sector, looking out for wildlife, especially the tree climbing lions found in this southern part of the National Park.

32-kilometre long natural channel that links Lake Edward and Lake George, and a dominant feature of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The channel attracts many animals and birds,

Following our rewarding, game drive, we will travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, reaching the park in the evening. Bwindi National Park is a natural habitat to the endangered Mountain Gorillas, along with a wealthy diversity of wild animals and plants. Inhabitants include other primate species, such as the blue and red tailed monkeys.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest – Uganda

 

On this 4th day of the 5 days Uganda safari tour,  you will head for the once-in-a-lifetime experience of trekking mountain gorillas in the wild. The day starts with an early morning breakfast, after then proceed to park headquarters for briefing about the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking.

With a ranger guide, you will head off into the thick forest of Bwindi National Forest, to search for the mountain gorillas, the major highlight of visiting Uganda. This gorilla walk can take up to 8 hours, depending on the gorilla group, how far they may have moved, and the group’s degree of fitness.

The scenic trek through the Bwindi forest takes us in search of a group of gorillas assigned to you. On finding them, you will spend at most 1 hour with them as you watch them feed and interact with each other.

Return to park quarters to pick your  gorilla trekking certificate. Each gorilla encounter is unique, offering its own rewards. We generally get up close to the adult gorillas to watch them feeding, grooming and resting, as well as witnessing the young gorillas at play.

In the afternoon you will proceed to explore a local community on foot, to gain insight into their ways of living, support this local initiative. After our walk in Buhoma village  head for a drink as you recollect the unforgettable adventures with the Mountain Gorillas. Then it is time to relax and recuperate at our accommodation enjoying the peaceful setting in nature.

Day 5: Bwindi to Kampala or Entebbe – Uganda

oFinnaly we come to the end of the 5 days Uganda  safari by having early breakfast, and later on depart for Kampala. You will stop over for  a lunch break at Igongo Cultural Village en route, where you learn about the Bahima and Ankole cultures of Uganda, glimpsing the history of these interesting people.

Along the way stop at the equator for photography. Proceed to Kampala/Entebbe to catch up with your  evening flight, bringing this Uganda Gorilla Safari to a close.
