3 days Nyiragongo Volcano safari offers an ultimate 2 nights 3 days Mount Nyiragongo Volcano hiking/climbing adventure in Virunga National Park. This 3 day Nyiragongo trekking safari is a short Congo safari which may start from Kigali or Goma, to the foot slopes of Mount Nyiragongo Volcano, followed by an ascent to the World’s famous Crater Lake boiling Lava at the summit, where you will spend an overnight. The day after begins with a descent down the foot hills of Nyiragongo Volcano.
Nyiragongo Volcano is 1 of 8 Virunga ranges, which are shared in Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda. After the previous eruption in 2002 which claimed many lives, Nyiragongo Volcano again erupted on the 22nd May, 2021, leaving several people, along with animals dead, and injured, as well as loss of property, not forgetting that many were displaced.
Despite the tragedy, Nyiragongo still remains a beautiful wonder to catch site of, after summiting to the top to have views of the red glow from the boiling lava of the 2km crater on the Peak of the Nyiragongo Volcano in the night when darkness covers the area.

Day by Day Itinerary for the 3 days Mount Nyiragongo Hiking
Day #1: Transfer to Gisenyi From Kigali
From Kigali International Airport or Kigali hotel accommodation, You will be picked by our expert driver guide in a customized 4×4 safari jeep. He will take you through the highlights of your ideal 3 days Nyiragongogo Volcano hike from Kigali Rwanda, then after you will set off for a perfect city tour, to visit genocide memorial sites, the presidential palace museum, the main city market and artisan shops among others.
Thereafter, depart Kigali for Gisenyi on the Lake Kivu Shores. Enroute you will have lunch, and be driven past Rwanda’s spectacular countryside featuring green tea plantations, rolling hills, local people and the scenic Lake Kivu, arriving early in the evening to check in at your lodge, close to the border crossing in Goma.
Have dinner and rest early, in preparation for the day 2 Nyiragongo Volcano summit hike.

Day #2: Transfer to Nyiragongo Volcano
Wake up early for breakfast, to begin your Nyiragongo Volcano Hike. Leave the hotel/lodge and proceed to Grande Barriere border crossing, to reach by 0700 hrs , in the Virunga Tourism office. You will present your documents to be checked at 0800 hrs.
The tourism office is situated at the Grande Barriere border post building, nearby the passport control. You will then be issued with a volcano trek permit when checking in, and transfer to the starting point of the hike.
At Kibati ranger post, you will briefed then after start the hike up Nyiragongo at 10:00am. For the next 6 hours, depending on your group’s physical & mental strength, and fitness, you will trek to the top of Nyiragongo Volcano.
The trail heads through the forested areas, lava flows and the open space, with great opportunities to observe and enjoy spectacular views of the boiling lava with red glow from the glaze lava, alongside pleasant photography moments.
Dinner will be served, then later have a restful night in your assigned cabin
Day #3: Descend from Nyiragongo and transfer to Kigali.
Rise up to a delicious breakfast, as you watch the orange ray of the sunrise, and begin descending down to the base, and journey back to Grand Barriere, where you will meet up with the expert driver guide for a transfer back to Kigali.
