Nyungwe forest national Park is in Southwestern Rwanda. The park is the longest tropical rainforest, measuring a total area of 950 square kilometers. Nyungwe Forest national Park has a rich biodiversity which comprises of more than 200 tree species, butterflies, beyond 300 bird species and 13 species of primates. The major attractions to the tourists are intelligent Chimpanzees and the canopy walk on a suspended 200m meter bridge.
Apart from Chimpanzee tracking, the Park is also home Colobus monkey trekking, great nature walks and bird watching.

Detailed Itinerary for the 3 Days | Nyungwe Forest National Park Safari Rwanda
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest national Park from Kigali
On this days, you will be met by a driver guide from our company, who will take you on a brief Kigali tour to visit the genocide memorial center, the central city market and the former presidential palace and artisan shops. You will have lunch in any of the restaurants in Kigali, after which you will journey to Nyungwe Forest national Park on a 5 hour drive.
In case you missed out the Kigali city tour, you can visit the Butare Museum, the Kamegeri’s rock, the National Ethnographic Museum in Huye, Murambi Genocide Memorial and the former King’s palace. After 6 hours, the driver will drop you in your hotel/lodge for dinner and an overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking & Nature Walk
After an early breakfast, the driver guide will take you to the briefing point at Uwinka. Your briefing about what to expect on your long days chimpanzee tracking starts at 5:00am, which is mor earlier than those in kibale forest national Park.
Chimpanzee tracking trails at Nyungwe are in two sections, including Uwinka and Cyamudongo. After briefing, you will be assigned a trail, after which you will proceed with the ranger guide to the starting point for chimpanzee trekking.
The time spent for chimpanzee tracking is unpredictable, because the chimpanzees are mobile, however you might trek for about 2-6 hours, with a maximum 1 hour of meeting face to face with the chimpanzees. You will watch them play, feed, copulate among other daily activities.

The trails are designed to make nature lovers experience the flora and fauna in the park. The waterfall trail is famous and takes approximately 3 hours to complete. If time allows, you could be taken to track Angola Colobus in Gisakura. You will learn how tea is grown, processed and packed at the factory, after which you will proceed with your journey to Kigali, arriving in the Late afternoon at the airport to catch your flight back home, otherwise you will be dropped in your lodge.

What are the rules and regulations for Chimpanzee tracking?
Don’t visit the Chimpanzees if you have a cold, fever or illnesses of any sort
Human waste should be buried beneath the ground about 30cm (12″) deep
At most eight persons are allowed to visit each Chimpanzee family
When you are with the Chimpanzees, maintain a 7m-10m distance from the gorillas
Smoking, eating and drinking are not allowed when with the Chimpanzees
