After an early breakfast, the driver guide will take you to the briefing point at Uwinka. Your briefing about what to expect on your long days chimpanzee tracking starts at 5:00am, which is mor earlier than those in kibale forest national Park.

Chimpanzee tracking trails at Nyungwe are in two sections, including Uwinka and Cyamudongo. After briefing, you will be assigned a trail, after which you will proceed with the ranger guide to the starting point for chimpanzee trekking.

The time spent for chimpanzee tracking is unpredictable, because the chimpanzees are mobile, however you might trek for about 2-6 hours, with a maximum 1 hour of meeting face to face with the chimpanzees. You will watch them play, feed, copulate among other daily activities.

While trekking the chimpanzees, you might glimpse other primate like Hamlyn’s Monkeys, owl-faced monkeys, golden monkeys, Dent’s Mona Monkeys, Angola Colobus, Silver monkeys, Olive Baboons, Red-tailed Monkeys, grey-cheeked Mangabeys, vervet monkeys and L’hoest’s monkeys. You will be driven back to the hotel for Lunch, after chimpanzee tracking, from which you will proceed for your afternoon nature walk. Nyungwe National Park has 14 nature walk trails, where you expect to spot more birds and other primates, as well as the water falls.

The trails are designed to make nature lovers experience the flora and fauna in the park. The waterfall trail is famous and takes approximately 3 hours to complete. If time allows, you could be taken to track Angola Colobus in Gisakura. Tracking Colobus monkeys lusts for a sort while compared to following any of the trails or chimpanzee trekking because they live at the foothills of the forest.
