5 Days Climbing Mount Kenya Chogoria-Naro Moru Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Trek From Chogoria Gate to Mount Meru Bandas – 4hrs, 16km walk, 950m ascent
In the morning you will depart with Aloyo Safaris expert driver guide for Chogoria town for an early lunch. It is from here that you will meet your porters, trekking guide and the cooks, with whom you will travel in in 4×4 vehicle to the forest clearance, 16km from where the Mountain Hiking starts. You will trek for 16km traversing past the montane forest, bamboo, and giant heather zone along the dirt and once in a while very muddy road. Then ascend further through the high altitude moorland to reach Mount Meru Bandas at 2950m in 4hrs. Dine and sleep at Mt. Meru Bandas.
Day 2: Trek From Mount Meru Bandas To Road Head Camp
Duration: 3hrs
Distance: 9km
Elevation Gain: 350m ascent
Following your breakfast early in the morning, Walk along the trail passing through giant heather and forests up to Chogoria road head where you will have lunch. It is at this point that the track descends down to cross a stream then follows the broad ridge to the east of the gorges valley. After spending 3-4hrs walking, you will arrive at the Road Head Camp for dinner and a goodnight rest 3300m.
Day 3: Trek From Road Head To Mintos Hut – 4 hrs, 12km
Wake up early for breakfast in the morning, then follow the path through giant heather and forest to Chogoria road head. The path then drops to cross a stream, where you will stop for lunch. Afterwards follow the broad ridge to the east of the gorges valley to reach Mintos Hut, 4200m. Dine and sleep at Mintos Hut.
Day 4: Climb From Mintos To Point Lenan- Desend To Met Station – 11-12 hrs, 29km, 785m ascent/1985m descent
Wake up early for a hot cup of coffee or tea, then set off for Lenana peak in warm summiting gear at 0300 hours before dawn. After 60 minutes of your trek, you will ascend above a flat green area at the head of the valley known as temple fields, arriving at point Lenana at 6:30am, just in time when the sun is rising. Have fun taking memorable photographs, while celebrating your victory, then after descend for heavy breakfast via Naro Moru route to Mackinders. Proceed downwards after breakfast to Met Station at 3000m for dinner and overnight rest.
Day 5: Trek From Met Station To Naro Moru To Nairobi
Duration: 3hrs
Distance: 9km
Elevation gain: 400m descent
After breakfast, descend through the rainforest for 9km to Naro Moru Park Gate (2,600m) where you will connect with Aloyo Safaris expert guide in our customised 4×4 jeep to transport you back to Nairobi, arriving early in the afternoon at the hotel, otherwise, you can proceed to the Airport to catch your flight back home.
