6 Days | Rwanda Safari : 6 Days Rwanda safari takes you to  Nyungwe Forest National park ,  lake Kivu and Volcanoes National Park.

This 6 days | Rwanda safari itinerary includes: chimpanzee tracking at $90 per person per day and Canopy walk in Nyungwe National Park; boat excursion and visiting fishing villages on Lake Kivu; Gorilla trekking ($1500), Golden monkey trekking ($90),  and Iby’Iwachu cultural visit in Volcanoes National park

The 6 days Rwanda safari starts from Kigali city, to Nyungwe National Park for Chimpanzee tracking, thereafter proceed for water-related activities within the shores and islands of the magnificent lake Kivu. The journey further continues to Volcanoes National park  for mountain gorilla trekking and golden monkey tracking, as well as visiting the gorilla guardians at the Iby’Iwachu Cultural Village.

Detailed Itinerary for the 6 Days | Rwanda Safari

Day 1: Airport/Hotel Pick up – City Tour – Transfer to Nyungwe forest

Be ready to be met by our safari guide, who will pick you from the hotel very early in the morning or from the airport. He will brief you about your 6 days Rwanda safari, after then take you on a Kigali city tour where you will explore the presidential palace museum, one of the city markets, the genocide memorial center and some souvenir shop. You will have lunch  in the city and later on proceed to Nyungwe forest national Park in the south western Rwanda, where you can go for  chimpanzee tracking, smaller primate viewing, nature walks, birding and taking a forest canopy walk. The journey to the park takes approximately 5 with en route visit to other sites.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking – Canopy walk

Following your early morning breakfast, our safari driver guide transfer you to the briefing point, where the park guide will present to you an overview of chimpanzee tracking regulations at the Park headquarters. In a group of 8 along with the ranger guide, you will be lead to the jungle to look for the chimpanzees, yet you might also encounter other creatures like red tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, colobus monkeys, forest elephant(though rarely seen), among others including various bird species and butterflies.

Once you find them, you will interact with them for a maximum time  of 1 hour  as you maintain distance of 7m with them, then after return to the lodge for Lunch.

 

Later in the afternoon,  set off for a forest canopy walk on a 200m bridge, suspended above forest, where you will get an overall view of the forest and its creatures. The canopy walk takes about 2 hours and is the second most famous activity in Nyungwe forest after chimpanzee trekking.

Day 3: Journey to Lake Kivu for an afternoon boat ride

Have breakfast at your leisure, and set off for Lake Kivu. Lake Kivu is the largest lake in Rwanda that stretches all the way up to the Democratic Republic of Congo. You will arrive at your hotel in time lunch, after then continue for a boat trip along the Lake which will take you hopping between the different islands. Afterwards, you will relax and unwind by the Lake shores or go swimming for the remaining part of the evening.

Day 4: Explore Lake Kivu and the fishing villages – Transfer to Volcanoes national park

Following your morning breakfast, the driver guide will take you to explore lake Kivu where you will spot birds and primates. From there you will visit the fishing villages, where you also interact with the fishermen about their trade. Lake Kivu is a very beautiful and romantic place to visit, and later on proceed to Volcanoes National Park.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in the Volcanoes national park – Tour the Iby’iwacu cultural village

On day 5 of the 6 days Rwanda safari, you will wake up early for breakfast, then the driver guide will drive you to the park headquarters of Volcanoes national park Rwanda for Briefing about the do’s and don’ts as well as the expectations of Mountain gorilla trekking. The ranger guide will share code of conduct of how you must behave during your trek, when you are with the gorillas, until when your finally depart.  Gorilla trekking may lust for about 2 to 8 hours depending on the gorilla family, how far they may have moved from the previous position, or otherwise the physical strength of the group members.

Return for your lunch at the lodge, and in case you have time in the afternoon, there is an option of visiting the Iby’Iwacu cultural village to learn more about the Rwandan history & culture, or visit the twin lakes.

Day 6: Golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes national park

On This day, we finally come to an end of the 6 Rwanda Safari. Like Gorilla trekking, you will be transferred very early to the park headquarter, after your morning breakfast, to the briefing area for golden monkey trekking. The ranger guide will brief you about what to expect on Golden Monkey trekking. Golden monkeys are found in Uganda’s Mgahinga National Park and Rwanda’s Volcanoes national Park. Unlike Gorillas, the golden monkey are generally more active and mobile, which requires continuous follow up, as they look for food, feed their young ones among other activities in the jungle. You will also spend a full hour in their presence, after which you will proceed for lunch and later on drive to the Airport, to catch up with your next flight back home.
