Detailed Itinerary of the 9 Days Rwanda Gorilla trekking & Cultural Experience
Day 1: Welcome to Kigali
Following your arrival, you will be picked up from your hotel or from the Kigali international airport, thereafter you will be transferred to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Reconciliation village & Kigali City Tour
Kick start your day with a tour to visit the genocide reconciliation village on the outskirts of Kigali city after your morning breakfast, so as to learn about the stories of genocide survivors as they live alongside the perpetrators. If you still have much time, visit the Kigali genocide memorial, Kandt museum and shop for art and crafts.
Day 3: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Have breakfast, then proceed to visit the remaining sites you might have missed the previous day in Kigali, after then, proceed to Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda, where you will arrive in the late afternoon, at the lodge to check-in. However, you can also have short stopovers en route to Akagera park for photographic moments of the beautiful landscape.
Day 4: Game drive and boat safari-9 days Rwanda cultural Safari & Gorilla trekking Experience
Following your morning breakfast, you will set off for your morning game drive in the northern part of the park where you will look out for animals like Elephants, Giraffes, Zebras, Buffaloes and the currently introduced lions. There was human wildlife conflict before in the area which was solved by fencing one side of the park near communities.
In the afternoon, you will do a boat ride on Lake Ihema or you can choose to relax at the lodge. You will overnight in the park to witness the community the next day.
Day 5: Enjoy an Experiential visit to one of the homesteads
You will be driven to visit a homestead of cattle keepers where partake in the different activities.
The activity starts early in the morning with milking cows with hands as opposed to machines. The herdsman will guide you on how to calm the cow and milk it. Thereafter, you set the cows for the days grazing. You will also have lessons on how milk is converted traditionally into different products like ghee and yoghurt.
Return to the hotel, have mid-morning breakfast and proceed to Volcanoes National Park with enroute cultural experiences in the homestead. The park is situated in the Northern Rwanda about 2 hours from Kigali. You have several photography opportunities as you travel north to the volcanoes. You will arrive to the lodge for lunch, and later dinner and an overnight.
Day 7: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park
Following your early morning breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for briefing about the regulations of gorilla trekking while trekking and when with the gorillas, thereafter you will proceed to the light forest to trek the mountain gorillas in a group of 8 with a park guide.
It will take you 2-5 hours to trek the gorillas, and when you find them, you will spend at most 60 minutes in their presence, then head for lunch, and later on visit the Iby’Iwachu cultural village for an exclusive cultural experience
Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight.
Day 8: IBy’Iwachu Cultural Experience
You will transfer to visit the Iby’Iwachu cultural Village. Half of the day will be spent here learning about how the Rwandan people traditionally lived in their community which is climaxed by experience of having a King and Queen.
Enjoy traditional dance performances by the group, and learn about how they made traditional beer and local cuisines
The other part of the day will be spent in the community where you will visit a village home and be part of their daily life. You will prepare a meal together with them and after enjoy eating this it.
Day 9:Departure.
Early in the morning after breakfast, you will start your journey back to Kigali with enroute visit to the Nyanza- the Kings’ palace, then proceed to Kigali to catch up with your flight
