Days 1-3: Begin Your Safari At Saruni
Start your safari at Saruni Samburu, the sole lodge nestled in the picturesque mountains of the Kalama Conservancy, adjacent to the Saruni National Reserve. This allows for a safari experience that is free from the crowds. Arrive at your villa, featuring panoramic views of the stunning northern Kenyan landscape. During your exploration, you will partake in game drives within Samburu National Reserve to discover the unique ‘Special 5’ of Samburu: the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and the distinctive long-necked gerenuk, all of which are rare species found exclusively in this region of the country. The Samburu warriors serve as your guides. They exhibit a strong commitment to their land and culture, imparting insights into their intriguing customs and traditions, as well as their profound understanding of the animals.
Seek out the larger wildlife, including elephants, lions, and leopards, and enjoy a picnic lunch prior to returning to the lodge for a relaxing afternoon. The facility offers swimming pools and a spa, or you may prefer to relax with a nap in the shade of your deck. Embark on a walk to the caves, where the walls are adorned with rock paintings, or to Ololokwe, the sacred mountain of the Samburu. Sundowners and dinner conclude a day filled with memorable experiences. An evening game drive in Kalama Conservancy culminates with a dinner beneath the stars in the wilderness, followed by a night drive back to the lodge. The Samburu warriors will perform a dance on your final evening, illuminated by a primal fire and candles.
Day 4 – 6: Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
Your upcoming journey will lead you to Sirikoi Lodge, located within the esteemed Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Saruni Samburu provides stunning elevated views of the dramatic terrain, whereas Sirikoi offers an intimate connection to the earth, seamlessly integrated into the natural landscape, allowing you to immerse yourself in the rhythm of the surrounding habitat.
In addition to outstanding game viewing, Lewa hosts more than 10% of Kenya’s remaining black rhino population, offering numerous opportunities for exploration. Embark on a guided hike or quad bike excursion through the nearby Ngare Ndare Forest, where you will discover concealed waterfalls nourished by Mount Kenya and a 400-meter-long canopy walkway elevated among the treetops.
Upon returning to camp, relax with in-room massages, enjoy horse riding, and participate in guided bush walks. Day 7-9: Explore Mara North Conservancy
As the early morning dawns, we prepare to bid a warm farewell to Samburu before embarking on our flight to Saruni Mara, nestled in a serene valley within the Mara North Conservancy of the Masai Mara.
Immediately upon disembarking from the plane, you find yourself aboard a game-viewing vehicle, accompanied by a Maasai warrior whose passion and expertise regarding his ancestral lands are evident. Under his expert guidance, you will experience not only the prominent figures but also the intricate narratives: the courtship rituals of birds, the lively families of warthogs, and the cunning behaviors of hyenas.
