Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park

Following a delicious breakfast in Kigali, you will be met by Aloyo Safaris experienced driver guide  who will brief you about your 6 days Gorillas wildlife & Chimpanzee Tracking Safari in Rwanda, after then transfer you to Akagera National Park. You will arrive at your lodge in time for lunch, where you will check in, have lunch, relax and later on set off for an evening game drive  to look out  for Elephants, Gazelles, Antelopes, Buffaloes, Giraffes, Impalas, Leopards, Zebras, Bush Babies, Topis and Baboons among others. Dinner & Overnight at the Lodge.

Day 2 : Game drive and boat ride on Lake Ihema

Wake up very early in the morning for a cup of tea, thereafter proceed for the morning game drive to catch up with the early risers and other animals that you could have missed out on the game drive the previous day among which are: Giraffes, Leopards, Antelopes, Zebra, Buffaloes, African Elephants. You will return to the lodge lunch.

Following your lunch in the Lodge, you head off for the afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema to glimpse Crocodiles and Hippos plus various birds like: the Kingfisher, the uncommon Shoebill Stork, the Fish Eagle among others.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Following your morning breakfast,  you’ll will be transferred  to the stunning Nyungwe forest National Park through Kigali where you will have lunch.

You will then proceed on a 5 to 6 hours drive towards the south Western Part of Rwanda, with an enroute visit to the Butare Museum, ethnographic museum and the King’s Palace to spot the amazing long horned cows. You will arrive in the evening at your favorite hotel to check in. Dinner will be served and have an overnight stay at the accommodation.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking & Canopy Walk

Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest national park: You will set out at 5:00 am for Uwinka briefing point, where you reach in time for Chimpanzee tracking briefing in Nyungwe Forest national Park.

Nyungwe forest has two major trails heads where Chimpanzee trekking takes place including Uwinka trail and Cyamudongo sector. The has more than 200 trees species and flowering plants, 13 primates species such as, colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, approximately 300 bird species with a number of Albertine rift endemics and various butterflies species.

During the briefing, the ranger guide you on which trail you will take, whereby the Cyamudongo trail requires a short drive to the starting point for chimpanzee trekking. You will spend approximately 2-6 hours trekking to find the chimpanzees, including 1 full hour of staying up close with the chimpanzees, as you watch them play, copulate, feed among others. After this, exit the park and return to your lodge for a delicious lunch and then in the afternoon, you’ll drive to Kibuye town found on Lake Kivu’s Female gorilla shores. Dine and slumber at Hotel  at Kibuye.

Day 5: Gisenyi and Ruhengeri

Immediately after breakfast, the driver will leave Kibuye town for Ruhengeri through Gisenyi. The drive will take you through the stunning countryside especially the Kayove as well as the Gisovu tea growing regions.  You will arrive in Ruhengeri to dine and sleep over at Kinigi Guest the Lodge.

Day 6: Mountain Gorilla Trek in PNV

You will wake very early in the morning to have breakfast, and drive to the park headquarters arriving by 8:00am at the briefing point, where the park guide will distribute members into groups of eight members, each tracking different families.

The groups then leave for the tropical forest at once to look for the mountain gorillas.  Gorilla trekking in Rwanda may take between 2 and 7 hours based on how far the gorillas have moved. You will be permitted to spend at most one hour with the Gorillas as you enjoy taking photos and even videos but as per the park regulations of maintain 7m distance between you and them.  After, you’ll go back to the lodge for some refreshments and a delicious Lunch, and later return to Kigali in the evening or dine and slumber at your hotel:
