Detailed Itinerary  For 12 Days Rwanda Safari

Day 1: Welcome to (Kigali) Rwanda

we warmly welcome you to the Land of A thousand hills for your best 12 days/11 nights Rwanda Safari to explore Nyungwe forest national Park, Volcanoes national Park, and Akagera national Park. You will be transferred to your hotel

Day 2: Kigali city tour

On this day 1, A representative from Aloyo Safaris will pick you up from the hotel/lodge instantly after your morning breakfast. He will then take you  for a Kigali city tour to visit places of importance such as the Genocide memorial sites, the major markets, crafts shops, museums among others.

You will have lunch in one of the restaurants in the city, but you can still opt to have it in the lodge, as well as dinner and an overnight at your lodge in Kigali.

Day 3: Transfer to Akagera National park

On this 2nd day of the 12 days Rwanda safari, you will wake  up for breakfast, your driver guide will pick you up from the hotel for a short city tour to visit sights that you may have missed the previous day. You have your lunch in one of the restaurants Kigali, after then you will proceed to Akagera National Park, with enroute visit to the king’s palace, genocide memorial site of Butare and Kandt museum depending on your interests.

You will reach in the evening at the lodge

Day 4: Explore Akagera national park

Following your breakfast, you will be taken to  the Northern part of Akagera National Park where most of the animals prefer to inhabit to look out for Elephants, Hippos, Buffaloes and Lions, while other animals that can be spotted include Zebras, Giraffes and Impalas which are usually scattered along the game tracks.

Return to the lodge for lunch, after which you will take a boat safari on Lake Ihema for a beautiful afternoon breeze and some sighting of birds and wildlife.

Dinner and an overnight at your hotel

Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes national Park– the home of Gorillas

This morning we depart Akagera national park for Volcanoes National Park via Kigali. You will have a morning game drive through the park, as you exit. You will have your lunch in Kigali, after then proceed, Northwards to Volcanoes national Park after a 2 hours drive.

Arrive in your preferred lodge for dinner and overnight

Day 6: Gorilla trekking and Iby’Iwachu Cultural experience

Go gorilla trekking, immediately after breakfast, where you will be briefed by the park guide, the after head to the forest in a group of 8 people to track the assigned gorilla family.

Gorilla trekking time schedule is not guaranteed, and may take between 2-8 hours, within which includes 1 hour of eye-to-eye contact with the Mountain gorillas, when you find them. Return to the base, to meet your driver guide who will transfer you for lunch, then after set off for a cultural experience retreat in the Iby’Iwachu cultural village.

Return for dinner and overnight sleep at your lodge.

Day 7: Golden Monkey & Twin Lakes Visit

Like gorillas, you will set off in the morning for briefing at the park headquarters, where you will be in a group in 8. The park guide will then lead you to the light forest of Volcanoes National Park to look for the mobile and playful golden monkeys, with whom you will spend 1 hour in their presence. You will head back to the base, to meet with driver to transfer you for lunch, and later on set off for Gisenyi from Musanze.

Dinner and overnight at your lodge close to Lake Kivu

Day 8:  Full day at Lake Kivu

Rise up in the morning for breakfast, after then proceed to explore Lake Kivu, and later connect to Rubavu town at the Lake shores, where you will spend the rest of the day relaxing on a cool boat ride to the islands within Lake Kivu.

Dinner & Overnight at the lodge as above.

Day 9: Transfer To Nyungwe forest national Park

Have breakfast, and transfer to Nyungwe Forest national Park. Yow will stop over in Huye for Lunch, and later reach in the evening for dinner and an overnight in your already booked lodge.

Day 10: Chimpanzee Tracking and Canopy walk in Nyungwe forest.

Following your breakfast, we leave for Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest, where you will be briefed, and later on proceed to the forest to look for the chimpanzees.

Apart from Chimpanzees, you will also meet with other creatures like L’Hoest monkeys, and Colobus monkeys with 300 bird species. On finding them , you will spend an hour in the presence of the chimpanzees, and later on transfer to the lodge for lunch, after which you will proceed for canopy walking experience for about 2-4 hours, depending on your preference

Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 11: Colobus monkey trekking

This morning, you will set off for briefing about the dos and don’ts of colobus monkey trekking  at the Nyungwe forest national Park headquarters. After briefing, you will head to the forest to look for Colobus monkey trekking. One of the habituated troops has more than 200 individuals so you can look forward to experiencing playful interactions of the monkeys as they groom, feed and play for each other. Like chimps and gorillas,  colobus monkey trekking allows for a 1 hour  of close interaction, thereafter return to the lodge for lunch.

Day 12: Depature

On this 12th day,  you will depart for Kigali, from Nyungwe after breakfast, where you will arrive for lunch. Later on proceed to the Airport to catch up with your flight.
