Mount Kenya spans along the equator and rises to an elevation of 5,199m. The Mount Kenya Naro Moru Route is the perfect trail for a hiker to see Mount Kenya’s highest peaks of; Batian and Nelion although the main focus is to reach the Lenana Peak at 4985m. This climb takes the hiker through bamboo forests, alpine moors and mountain rain forests.

The Naro moru approaches Mount Kenya from the West and is the most fastest path up to the Lenana Peak. The trail is an ideal route to climb the Mount kenya peaks, but also consists of beautifully built tourist accommodations with spectacular views of the Batian and Nelion peaks.

Detailed Itinerary for  3 days Mt. Kenya Naro Moru Route Climbing Safari

Day 1: Nairobi to Naromoru Park gate Naro Moru.

Aloyo Safaris driver guide will pick you up from Nairobi to Naro Moru park gate after breakfast or from Airport on arrival. Enroute, you will you will pass through Kikuyu rich farm land consisting of pineapple plantations and coffee. Upon arrival, you will enjoy a picnic lunch, thereafter you will be registered, then embark on your 3-4 hour day 1 hike through the vertical bog and extremely steep trail on loose gravel to Met Station (3050m), for dinner and an overnight sleep.

You will have gained an elevation of 600m

Day 2: Met Station to Mackinder’s Camp (4300m)

Duration: 5-6 hours

Distance :11km

Altitude Gain :1200m

Following an early morning breakfast, ascend up to Mackinder’s camp (4,100m), for about 4-6 hour climb through Teleki valley, enjoying spectacular views of the Batian and the Nelion peaks. You will walk through the marshy vertical bog of the lower moorlands, enjoy picnic, and continue climbing over the loose rock to the camp after an altitude gain of 1300m in 5 or 6 hours, where you will finally settle for dinner and an a goodnight rest.

Day 3 – Reach Lenana peak before dawn , descend to the park gate, return to Nairobi

Rise up early at 0300 hrs, and begin climbing upwards for 3-4 hours, as you pass through bara rocks and scree slopes of the Alpine region upto Lenana peak (4985m) before sun rise. Later after photography and victory celebration, descend downwards to the Narumoru Park gate. Our driver guide will then transfer you back to Nairobi to your accommodation of preference.
