The 7 day Lemosho route trek is most popular compared to the 6 days Lemosho route trek because it allows for better acclimatization & more gradual hike as it divides day 2 into two days. Detailed 7 Day Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing Lemosho route Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Moshi

Upon arrival in Moshi, you will be transferred to your hotel. Spend the day resting and preparing for your trek. In the evening, meet with your guide for a pre-trek briefing and equipment check.

Overnight at the hotel as you anticipate for next day adventure awaiting.

Day 2. Moshi to Forest Camp (Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp)     

  • Elevation (ft): 7,800ft to 9,500ft
  • Distance: 6 km
  • Hiking Time:3-4 hours
  • Habitat: Rain Forest   

After breakfast, drive from Moshi to the Lemosho Gate (approx. 2-3 hours). Complete park registration formalities at the gate and meet your trekking team. Begin your trek through lush rainforest, ascending gradually. Enjoy lunch en route.

Arrive at the Forest Camp (e.g Mti Mkubwa Camp) in the late afternoon, before dark. Settle into camp, relax, and enjoy dinner.

 

Day 3: Forest Camp to Shira Camp 1

  • Distance: 8 km
  • Hiking Time 5-6 hours
  • Habitat: Moorland

Trek to Shira Camp Camp. After breakfast, continue your trek, leaving the rainforest behind. Ascend through the heather and moorland zones, with stunning views of the Shira Plateau. Lunch will be served along the trail. Arrive at Shira 1 Camp in the afternoon. Spend the rest of the day acclimatizing, exploring the surroundings, and enjoying dinner.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Today’s trek takes you further into the alpine desert landscape. Ascend to Shira 2 Camp, located near the base of the Lava Tower. Lunch will be served along the trail. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp in the afternoon. Spend the rest of the day resting, hydrating, and acclimatizing.

 

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

  • Elevation (ft): 13,800ft to 13,000ft
  • Distance: 7 km
  • Hiking Time: 4-6 hours
  • Habitat: Semi Desert

Via Lava Tower (Optional acclimatization day) Today is an optional acclimatization day. Trek to the Lava Tower (4,600m/15,091ft) for altitude acclimatization. Descend to Barranco Camp for overnight stay. Lunch will be served en route. Arrive at Barranco Camp in the afternoon. Spend the rest of the day resting, hydrating, and preparing for the next day’s trek.

 

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

  • Elevation (ft): 13,000ft to 15,000ft
  • Distance: 9km
  • Hiking Time: 8-10 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert

After breakfast, tackle the Barranco Wall, a challenging but exhilarating climb. Trek through the Karanga Valley to Karanga Camp. Lunch will be served along the trail. Arrive at Karanga Camp in the afternoon. Spend the rest of the day resting, hydrating, and mentally preparing for the summit push.

 

Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Today’s trek takes you to Barafu Camp, your base camp for the summit attempt. Ascend through the alpine desert landscape, with stunning views of the glaciers. Lunch will be served along the trail. Arrive at Barafu Camp in the afternoon. Rest, hydrate, and prepare for the summit attempt. Early dinner and an early bedtime to rest before the summit push.
