Getting To Lake Mburo National Park

Getting to Lake Mburo National Park is majorly by road, from Kampala/Entebbe or Mabara on a tarmac road  to either Sanga gate, Kyanyanshara Gate or Nshara gates, each located 2km to Rwonyo where the Park headquarters is positioned.  There are no scheduled chattered flights to Lake Mburo National Park, but a private  arrangement can be made by  Aerolink or Fly Uganda Ltd Operators in Uganda.

Location

Lake Mburo National Park is strategically positioned adjacent to Kampala-Mbarara highway.  The park is located 240 km from Kampala capital city, just 3-4 hours drive to access it, while it is about 290 km From Entebbe by road.

Lake Mburo National Park, has become the a one stop destination mostly visited by adventure travelers on a road safari to Kibale National Park,  Queen Elizabeth National Park, Rwenzori Mountains National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park & Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Getting To Lake Mburo National Park By Road

Thanks to the better infrastructure, the drive to from Kampala takes you on a smooth tarmac road to access the Park. Lake Mburo National Park can be reached from two routes, that is, from either Masaka through Lyantonde to Nshara Gate or from Mbarara  to Sanga Gate. Lyantaonde is located 20 km to Nshara gate, while Sanga gate is 50km from Sanga Gate.

Accessing Lake Mburo National Park From  the 3 Gates

Lake Mburo National Park has 3 gates from which it can be accessed, that is, Kyanyanshara Gate, Sanga gate and Nshara Gate.

Kyanyanshara Gate  is located near the renown high end Mihingo Lodge. The gate settles 18 km south of Akagate Trading center, which is also measures 14km West of Lyantonde.

Nshara gate is located 500m  West of Akagate trading center, and accessing it follows a 9km stretch on dirt road from Lyantonde. While the Sanga Gate is sitauated 13km from Akagate trading center, just 27km from Lyantonde.

How to get there By Bus

However,  One can also get to Lake Mburo National Park by bus to Sanga, then after transfer to Sanga gate by a private hired car or by Motor bike (boda boda).  All cars accessing the park must be 4×4 Safari jeep with 4WD.

How to get there From Kibale National Park

Lake Mburo National Park can also be reached in about 3 ½ hours drive via Ibanda and Rushere from Kibale Forest National Park. However it is a convenient route for those who opt to visit Lake Mburo National Park, after Chimpanzee trekking or Chimpanzee habituation in Kibale Forest national Park.

From Queen Elizabeth National

It takes about 2 ½  to 3 ½ hours to drive from Queen Elizabeth National Park via Isahsa and Mbarara for an approximate distance of 186km.

Getting to Lake Mburo National Park By Air

Although there are no direct flights to Lake Mburo National Park, Private  Chattered flights from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip can be arranged for a bout 1 ½  hours to Mbarara, then transfer by road to Sanga  gate of Lake Mburo National Park.

Flight duration are  unpredictable, domestic flights depends on the routing, so it always great to ask your tour operator for the avilablities before scheduling your flight to Lake Mburo National Park.
