Location, How to Get To Mgahinga National Park.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is located 15 km(9.3 mi) south of Kisoro town & about 55km (34 mi) West of Kabale City. Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport,. Visitors have the option to Fly directly into Kisoro Airport/Airstrip located in Kisoro district in south Western Uganda & begin their trip, from there by road to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Fly-in safaris are also common comprising of chattered flights taking travelers to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or travelers can also opt for a drive overland on a 4×4 safari jeep to the Park.

When Is The Best Time To Visit Mgahinga?

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Open for gorilla trekking all year round, although the best time to visit is during the 2 dry seasons every year, which runs between June – September & December – February. These months provide the best opportunities Gorilla trekking & golden Monkey tracking experience, and Nature walking or Volcano hiking adventure, due to the dry/less slippery nature of the trails, clear blue skies with no/little rainfalls.

The park is home to the famous endangered inhabitants Mountain Gorillas, but also Golden Monkeys.  Apart from the 2 endangered species, Mgahinga gorilla National Park habors 76 mammal species like; black-and-white colobus, leopard, elephant, giant forest hog, bushpig, buffalo, bushbuck, black-fronted duiker among others, as well as a bird haven protecting over 184 species of birds some of which are local,  and others are endemic to the Albertine Rift inclusing: handsome spurfowl, dusky crimson-wing, red-throated alethe, Kivu ground thrush, the striking Rwenzori turaco, Rwenzori batis, Rwenzori double-collared sunbird, collared apalis, mountain masked apalis, Archer’s ground robin, stripe-breasted tit, blue-headed sunbird, regal sunbird, strange weaver, montane nightjar, red-faced woodland warbler and Grauer’s swamp warbler.
