Transfer time: around five hours from Nairobi to Tipilikwani Mara Camp

The Masai Mara, arguably Africa’s most famous reserve and top animal viewing destination, has become synonymous with safari and is now featured on the BBC’s new show, Planet Earth Live. The Masai Mara Reserve, which spans 700 square miles and forms one vast ecosystem, essentially extends the northern Serengeti grasslands in neighboring Tanzania.

What makes the Mara regions famous is the yearly Wildebeest migration, which occurs from June to October and in which an almost unimaginable half million wildebeest inhabit the Mara in quest of the grasses that have been grown by the spring rains in April and May. After depleting all of the forage in the northern Serengeti, the wildebeest move north in big herds. This is a genuinely breathtaking sight, and it becomes an unforgettable experience when you add the echoes of hundreds of thousands of hooves hitting the earth. The wildebeest are not the only inhabitants of the land. Masai Mara hosts zebra, elephants, and the big cats like cheetahs, lions, and leopards. Hyena, jackal, buffalo, eland, topi, impala, gazelle, and warthogs are among this vast array of creatures.

Day 8–10: Serengeti National Park

The term “endless plains” in the Maasai language describes the enormous stretches of land that are inhabited by literally millions of enormous herbivores and the carnivores that coexist with them.. Apart from being home to the world’s largest concentration of migratory species, Serengeti National Park is also renowned for its substantial lion population. The adjacent Ngorongoro Conservation Zone and Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve are both included in the extensive conservation area that encompasses the Serengeti National Park. The lack of boundaries and fences allows for a great variety of animals to wander freely in this area. After your afternoon wildlife drive, which will end at twilight, you will be able to get back to the camp, have dinner, and then get some sleep.

Day 10: Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti National Park

Heave breakfast, and head over the Ngorongoro Highlands in your vehicle to your resort perched on the edge of the Ngorongoro crater, where you may enjoy a picnic lunch enroute. In addition to being home to sizable herds of buffalo, antelope, and wildebeest, the crater spans over102 square miles (250 square kilometers) and hosts the endangered black rhino. Enjoy lunch at the resort and some free time in the afternoon to see the sun go down.

Transfer time: around five hours from camp to Ngorongoro Crater

Day 10–12: The Ngorongoro Crater

The size and beauty of the Crater cannot be adequately described given that there is nothing to compare it to. “It is one of the Wonders of the World,” as the renowned and respected naturalist Professor Bernhard Grzimek once declared. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which spans more than 8,300 square kilometers (3,192 square miles), is the perfect example of East Africa because it includes extinct volcanoes, highlands, forests, grassland plains, priceless archaeological sites, and an incredible variety of species. Its focal point is the Ngorongoro Crater, which covers an area of 260 square kilometers (100 square miles). After descending 2,000 feet to the crater floor, the road winds around the lip of the crater, offering breathtaking views. Ngorongoro Crater is actually a caldera, which is the collapsed or submerged cone of a volcano. It is the largest inactive caldera in the world that is neither flooded nor fractured. The floor of the crater is home to a variety of creatures that live in the grasslands and acacia forests, including bull elephants, lions, hyenas, zebras, and wildebeest. Lake Magadi, which means “salt water” in Maasai, is the name of the soda lake in the crater. The lake attracts waterfowl, including greater and lesser flamingos. Most famously, the crater serves as a highly successful sanctuary for the critically endangered black rhinoceros. As you observe the animals, you are surrounded by breathtaking landscape, and the crater is an excellent place for taking pictures & getting upclose. The Maasai have been bringing their cattle to the crater to drink water as they have done it for generations. There are reportedly a lot of nutrients in the ground water springs.
