Kilimanjaro Elephant Horse Safari

It will be a unique experience to ride the trails with the help of a mobile camp setup, spend seven nights in the forest, relax around campfires, and watch sunsets. A portion of your journey will be spent riding in Arusha National Park, which offers amazing, varied riding landscape that includes savannah grasslands, forest canopies, and dense scrub.

Experience the exhilarating sensation of cantering alongside passing wildebeest by riding alongside game. Giraffes, zebras, elephants, and other plains animals are likely to be seen, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot some large cats.

With the assistance of a responsive and healthy four-legged friend, you will tackle this task. Due to the presence of large animals, this Tanzanian riding vacation is only suitable for experienced riders. Family members, friends, or partners who are not riders can accompany the expedition in a specially designed 4×4 safari vehicle, traveling the same route and participating in all meals and other events.

A Detailed Kilimanjaro Elephant Horse Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Getting To Arusha

After touching down at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be whisked away to your first overnight stop. Situated on a wildlife estate, the lodge offers stunning views of Mount Meru and, on a clear day, Mount Kilimanjaro, making it the ideal location for acquainting oneself with Africa. Take a deep breath, relax, and meet up with your fellow travelers here! Gather around the dinner table, and your lead guide will provide a brief introduction and rundown of the safari’s highligh

Day 2: Arusha National Park

We start serving breakfast at the crack of dawn. The drive to the entrance of Arusha National Park is around thirty minutes after breakfast. At this location, you will find the horses that will accompany you on your journey into Arusha National Park – one of the most picturesque parks in all of East Africa. From wide-open grassland to dense rain forest, the landscape will undergo a remarkable transformation.
Here you can view a wide variety of birds, leopards, unusual animals (including the Suni and Red Duiker), buffalo, and other plains wildlife. Entering the thick forests while keeping an eye out for the White Colombus monkeys, who provide nonstop entertainment, is an enchanting experience.

In between stops, you’ll have time to set up lunch and take a little nap. Following lunch, the ride continues through leopard country, past Margarete Trappe’s former home on the way to the night halt. This remarkable woman from World War I is famously known as the Iron Lady.

This safari follows Margarete’s ancient riding pathways through the holy forests of the park, which are filled with tales. Get to your campsite at the base of Mount Meru in plenty of time to take a shower, watch the sun go down, and then have supper in the open air.

Day 3: Riding & Game Drives

Perhaps you will awaken to the chatty Columbus monkeys this morning. After breakfast is served, you mount and are given directions to the location where the John Wayne movie Hatari was shot. Ride to one of the best views of Mount Kilimanjaro halfway through the morning. You may have to dismount and lead your horse due to the terrain, but the scenery is well worth it! A game drive vehicle is used to complete the final, steepest section. To get to your lunch destination, which is near to a water fountain, you drive past the “Fig Tree Arch,” which is large enough to accommodate five horses underneath it. At this point, you are roughly 2000 meters above sea level. You will bike back towards camp after lunch, crossing another waterfall en route.

After you get back to camp, you can choose to get into the cars and drive to the Momella lakes, where you should be able to view several hippos and flamingos that make the lake pink. Before returning to camp for dinner and overnight, Enjoy sundowners by the lakes.

Day 4: Game Drives & Horse Riding

As the sun rises, you are greeted with a hearty breakfast before embarking on your drive out of Arusha National Park. The journey will last approximately 2 ½ hours as you head eastward towards Mount Kilimanjaro, with Mount Meru fading behind you like a shadow. Get on your horse and get ready for an exciting day of adventuring when you meet up with the ones that were transported there. The journey is extensive, weaving through Tanzanian farmland and the Maasai steppe, enriched by numerous cultural exchanges along the way. Utilise the cooler morning hours to maximise your progress.

Lunch is provided beneath a large acacia tree, occasionally close to a dam where the Massai people water their horses and livestock. A pleasant three-hour break for lunch awaits you, providing ample opportunity for a short siesta to recharge your energy. The afternoon ride takes us back into wildlife habitats and across wide-open plains, with the goal of arriving at our overnight halt at the new camp before the sun sets

Day 5: Riding Across Seven Sisters

An English breakfast is served after a wake-up call. Get on your horse and ride on towards the Kenyan border. We continue on our way to lunch, which will be served under a shaded tree, after we have traversed the Seven Sisters, or seven hills. The landscape ranges from wide grasslands to stunning acacia woodlands. In addition to the more common plains species like zebras, giraffes, elephants, and wildebeests, today’s highlight will be the opportunity to spot the shy antelope known as the Gerenuk. In a perfect world, you would spend the night at a different site, where the stars would illuminate your path and the four towering peaks of Kilimanjaro, Namanga, Longido, and Meru would cast their shadows over you.

Day 6: Morning & Evening Rides

Coffee and tea are served early in the morning before breakfast is served. You could spend the day following the elephants or leaping over the trees they’ve knocked over. Scrublands, acacia woodlands, and wide, dried-out lake pans are among the several types of topography. You will have lunch back at camp today and then go on another ride in the afternoon. Just as the sun goes down, get back to camp for another unforgettable night in this secluded and breathtaking location.

Day 7: Full Day Riding

As the sun rises, get up and ride out towards the Kenyan border. We will follow the elephant’s path throughout the day. We’re hoping for luck in tracking and the opportunity to witness these monsters from a horse’s back. We will spend the night looking out over the plains, where the game is always on the lookout for predators. Aside from the view of the mountain terrain, the night sky is simply magnificent, therefore it is a good thing when the night is clear.

Day 8: Departure

Your safari has reached its conclusion on this final morning. After a hearty breakfast, return to civilisation; the trip back to the airport takes roughly three hours, depending on the state of the roads. On your way back to the resort, you’ll share one final meal. Everyone will have the option of taking a shower, but if you are flying out late, please let us know if you would want to reserve a dayroom (at an additional cost).
