A Detailed 10 Days Rwanda Primates & Wildlife Safari

 Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Kigali Marriott Hotel

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, a local representative will greet you and facilitate your transfer to the accommodation. Dedicate the day to relaxation prior to the trip or take the opportunity to discover Rwanda’s capital, established in 1907 as a German town.

Days 2-3: Akagera National Park

In the morning, visit the Genocide Memorial in the city to gain insight into Rwanda’s painful past, spanning from the pre-colonial period to the catastrophic genocide of 1994. Subsequently, depart Kigali and proceed to Akagera National Park, traversing banana plantations while appreciating Rwanda’s lush scenery. In the afternoon, commence a game-viewing drive through the diverse savannah grasslands, acacia woodlands, and marshy wetlands that constitute this 1,122 square-kilometre park. Observe the Big Five in addition to giraffes, zebras, warthogs, antelopes, hippos, crocodiles, and others while traversing this vast area situated along the Akagera River.

Be vigilant for lions, leopards, elephants, black rhinos, and Cape buffalo, along with a vibrant assortment of waterbirds as you explore the plains today. During your exploration, identify yourself with the conservation initiatives in the park, which, not twenty years ago, was inundated with cattle and threatened by agricultural encroachment. Day 4: Akagera to Kigali

Return to the park for a culminating day of wildlife observation in Akagera and relish a picnic lunch amidst the lush grasslands. Day 5 Nyungwe Forest National Park

Today, you will be transported to Nyungwe National Park to observe one of Africa’s oldest rainforests. Pause in Butare en route to investigate Rwanda’s second largest city, frequently referred to as its intellectual capital due to the presence of numerous academic institutions, and visit the adjacent town of Nyanza to examine the King’s Palace – a former royal residence that has been restored in its traditional thatched architecture. Visit the Ethnographic Museum in Huye to view artifacts, garments, and crafts from previous centuries, followed by lunch at a nearby restaurant. Proceed to Nyungwe and check into your accommodation in preparation for the next explorations.

Day 6: Nyungwe Forest National Park

Embark early on a morning journey through Nyungwe Forest in pursuit of chimpanzees. You may observe one traversing the trees or encounter the indigenous L’Hoest’s monkey, along with 12 additional primate species that inhabit the park.

You will depart early for Ruhengeri, a small French-speaking village that serves as the gateway to the park, before commencing an extraordinary adventure:

A gorilla trek through the majestic peaks and verdant rainforest of this 62-square-mile wonderland. Be vigilant for these intriguing animals on your two to six-hour journey, as you search for the species that have established Rwanda’s reputation among global wildlife enthusiasts. Subsequently, return to your lodge to unwind by the fire and absorb the experience.

Day 10: Volcanoes National Park

Re-enter the park today to commence your second gorilla trip and pursue a different family. Be vigilant for additional animals, including golden monkeys, spotted hyenas, buffalo, elephants, bushbuck, and many species that inhabit these hills, as well as several unusual birds, comprising at least 29 species peculiar to the Virunga and Rwenzori Mountains.
