Day 2: Trekking Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi, Uganda, and Cultural Tour(Engage with the Batwa Pygmies)
Rise early to consume breakfast, then proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing. The head guide gives a briefing at 7:00 a.m. on how to interact with the gorillas and what to pack for gorilla tracking. You will be assigned a gorilla group and provided the opportunity to hire porters. The distribution of gorilla groups is contingent upon overall fitness. Certain gorilla populations venture farther into the wilderness, requiring extended hiking duration and hence presenting additional challenges. Subsequently, you should proceed to the jungle to locate the primates after identifying your gorilla group. Bring a quality camera to photograph yourself with the group.
After an hour with the mountain gorillas, return to the initial spot to meet our guide, who will bring you back to the resort for lunch and relaxation. In the late afternoon, you will be guided to the Batwa pygmy community, situated near the park. The Batwa were the initial inhabitants of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest; however, they were displaced from the park to facilitate gorilla conservation efforts. While gorillas and other park animals benefited from the government initiative, the Batwa did not. The Batwa have existed as hunters and gatherers for millennia, maintaining a safe distance from tribal groups outside the forests. They must now navigate their customs and comprehend them. The Batwa have been marginalized and predominantly live in poverty due to their inability to compete with more aggressive tribes. Whilst interacting with the Batwa, you will gain extensive insights into their culture through the entertainment provided by traditional dance groups.

Following your initial encounter with the primates yesterday, you may rise at your convenience and have breakfast while you await your driver. Following lunch, you may rest at the resort while awaiting the driver to transport you to the Gorilla Guardians Village. The Park Rangers and Guides will escort you into the forest following the briefing. Anticipate traversing a deep bamboo forest abundant with intriguing creatures. Following a short trek, you will be rewarded with an hour of gorilla watching.
Heed your Guide’s counsel and maintain composure, even if a gorilla approaches you. Following an hour of seeing the gorillas, you will return to the first location for lunch. The van will transport you to your accommodation or Kigali airport for your departure.
