This 4-days Gorilla trekking & Mount Sabyinyo offers  tracking the rare mountain gorillas in Bwindi with hiking the challenging Mount Sabyinyo (3,645m), known as “Old Man’s Teeth” for its rugged, three-peaked summit that straddles Uganda, Rwanda, and the DRC

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will leave you with priceless memories. Mountain gorillas can only be trekked in Uganda’s Bwindi and Mgahinga or Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park (permission costs $1500) or Virunga National Park (which now lacks security). With the Uganda gorilla trekking permit priced at $800, Uganda undoubtedly represents the premier destination for gorilla trekking.

This 4-day gorilla trekking with Mount Sabyinyo Hike within Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, is ideal for those pursuing a more extreme gorilla trekking experience in Uganda.

At an elevation of 3645 meters, Mount Sabinyo provides an exceptional hiking and climbing experience in Uganda. Mt. Sabinyo, a dormant volcano, is part of the impressive Virunga mountain range, which extends along the borders of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Unlike other volcanoes such as Karisimbi, Bisoke, and Mikeno, which are located within a single country or shared between two, Mt. Sabinyo is situated at the convergence of all three boundaries. It resembles the axis of the Virunga range and provides the most exceptional vistas of the Virungas, effectively offering a 360-degree experience.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Today, partake in gorilla trekking in Bwindi.

Following breakfast, attend the morning briefing prior to partaking in gorilla trekking, which may extend throughout the day. We traverse the rainforest and bamboo-laden slopes, guided by a guide and gorilla trackers, in pursuit of a mountain gorilla family. Although the trek may be difficult and lengthy, a mere sighting of the majestic silverback will swiftly eclipse any discomforts. Once the gorillas are seen, tourist must allow a distance of 6 meters of them so they can sit and look into their big, round eyes for an hour.

Gorilla trekking is inherently unexpected. It is challenging to predict the number of hours you will hike. The gorilla tracking expedition may last between 2 and 8 hours. Anticipate traversing some distances in hilly, muddy terrain, occasionally under rainfall, prior to encountering any gorillas. Excellent physical fitness is advised. To promote conservation, interaction with the gorillas is restricted to one hour. A ranger will instruct you on appropriate conduct with the gorillas.

Although the majority of contemporary forests are little older than 12,000 years, Bwindi’s flora has been intricately intertwining for at least 25,000 years, resulting in a substantial compilation of species. This comprises 310 butterfly species, 51 reptiles, 200 tree varieties, 88 moth species, and an extraordinary 120 animal types, including 10 primates. This group comprises chimpanzees, L’Hoest’s monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, baboons, and the renowned mountain gorillas of Bwindi.

Bwindi is an exceptional destination for bird enthusiasts. Its 350 species encompass seven that are classified in the IUCN Red Data, along with 90% of all Albertine Rift endemics, species that are challenging or impossible to observe elsewhere in East Africa.

Currently, visibility is occasionally diminished to 10 feet; when reaching the summit, one may observe and stand within the boundaries of Uganda, Rwanda, and Congo.

This hike occasionally necessitates ascending directly up the mountain without circumventing it. The sights and difficulties of hiking Mt. Sabyinyo render it a memorable experience for hiking enthusiasts.

The hikers’ decision after an early breakfast will be based on the follows exploring Sabinyo Gorge (about 4 hours; distance 6 km, low elevation increase).
