Detailed Itinerary for Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi Safari

Day 1: Arrival – Transfer to Jinja

Your private driver guide will meet you at the Airport, upon landing, afterwards, you will set off for a 2-4hrs(depends on the traffic) drive to Jinja City, arriving in the Afternoon for lunch and a moment of relaxing, as you wait for dinner before taking a goodnight rest.

Day 2: Transfer to Jinja for White water rafting. Travel time +2hrs

Breakfast will be served early, so that the driver can transfer you early  for briefing about Rafting, from where you will decide for either wild and mild. Enroute, you will enjoy the breathtaking Bujagali Falls, before setting off for a 5 to 6 hr rafting, along which, you will wath the local fisherman by the banks of the river.

A small babaque celebration will be made to celebrate the success of all rafting participants,. Before you depart to meet the driver for a transfer back to Kampala for dinner & overnight at the Hotel.

Day 3: Kampala – Transfer To Kibale Forest National Park

At the break of dawn, breakfast will be served, afterwards embark on your road drive  with the driver guide to Fort Portal town, in the Western part of the country, where you will stop over for Lunch.  You will enjoy spectacular views of rolling landscapes, tea plantations & several local vendors with their stalls selling by the roadside. After  lunch, proceed to Kibale National Park, to arrive in the evening at the hotel for dinner and an overnight.

Kibale National Park also baptized, “The Primate Capital Of The World” is the most celebrated home for chimpanzees, which is the main attraction, drawing many tourists into the park for Chimpanzee tracking. Besides, the park also offers bird  watching, and nature walk adventures. The Park protects more than 1250 chimpanzee and also over 13 primates among which include the baboons, red colobus monkeys, red tailed monkey, Bush babies, black and white colobus.

Day 4: Kibale Forest National Park – Chimpanzee Tracking – Bigodi Wetlands

Wake up for breakfast, and proceed for briefing at  Kibale National Park headquarters, where you will allocated a chimpanzee group and a guide who will accompany you for the search of the Chimpanzees in the jungle. Chimpanzee trekking usually takes between 2 to 6hrs depending on their locations and the strength of the trekkers, and upon finding them, only one hour is allocated for you to stay in their presence. After a great interaction with your cousins, trace your way back  to the headquarter to receive your certificate, and return for lunch. Utilze the afternoon hours by going for a nature walk in Bigodi swamp,  before  settling for dinner and overnight rest at the hotel.

Day 5: Kibale – Queen Elizabeth NP

After breakfast, embark on your transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park , traversing via mystical Rwenzori Mountain range for entire of the journey.  You will reach in time for lunch at your booked accommodation, which after, you can set off for an afternoon safari game drive to catch sight of some of animals such as the elephants, waterbucks, bush bucks, buffaloes and among other. Return in the evening for dinner and overnight stay at lodge.

Day 6: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Spend the entire day on a game drive, which starts very early in the morning to catch up with predators like Lions and Leopards. Queen Elizabeth National Park, is known as a bird-watching paradise with over 500 species of birds that have been spotted, making it a Mecca for birders. Among these birds include; black bee-eater, 11 different species of kingfisher and several falcons, eagles and other raptors. Queen Elizabeth National is one of the most remarkable jewel of Uganda, and has been designated a Biosphere Reserve for Humanity under UNESCO auspices. After lunch head for a 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga channel (a waterway joins Lakes Edward and George), which is a home for schools of hippos, buffaloes with elephants at the banks. This launch cruise offers an authentic platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing.  The prolific bird life is tremendous and massive with more than 550 resident species.

Day 7: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Bwindi.

After breakfast, check out with packed lunch for the morning game drive, and exit the park, with an enroute drive through the Isasha sector, where you might catch glimpse on the tree climbing Lions hanging on the acacia tree branches.  Chances are that, you might sight animals including: grazing Hippos, Elephants, and Lions, spotted Hyenas, bush buck, water buck, stripped jackal, comical warthogs and the elusive leopard at Ishasha.

Continue along the spectacular western rift valley escarpment to arrive Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, to checkin, followed by dinner and an overnight.

Day 8: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Lake Buyonyi

Day 8 of the 18 days Burundi Uganda Rwanda safari, marks off Mountain gorilla trekking from your bucket list. Embark on your transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for your Mountain gorilla trekking rules & regulations briefing, as well as the allocations of guides, porters & rangers who will accompany you during gorilla trekking.

Afterwards, proceed for your such in the thick forest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which may range between 2-8 hours, including 1 full hour of staying in their presence, by coming face  to face. Trace your way back to the headquarters for your certificates, then to the lodge for a delicious lunch. From here, check out and proceed to Lake Bunyonyi for dinner and overnight at your accommodation.

Day 9: Canoe ride at Lake Bunyonyi & Transfer to Kigali.

Spend your day on a leisure treat in Lake Bunyonyi, by going on a canoe ride at Lake Bunyonyi to explore the hidden islands within this beautiful lake which is most popular as the deepest lake in Uganda housing several spectacular islands and harbors many bird species, being a birding haven for the bird lovers. TReturn for lunch and proceed  with your drive to Jusanze ze via Cyanika boarder to Ruhengeri  to check into your accommodation for dinner and an overnight

Day 10: Colobus Monkey tracking & Iby’Iwachu Cultural Experience

Have an early breakfast, then transfer to Volcanoes National Park  headquarters for briefing about Golden Monkey Trekking rules and regulations.

Embark your Golden Monkey trekking along the ranger guide. You will enter into the pristine forest of Volcanoes National Park, to look for the Golden Monkeys. This hike might be challenging, but its worth it.

Golden Monkey trekking may range between 1 to 7 hours , including 1 full hour of staying up-close with the Golden Monkeys. After  then return to the park headquarters to meet your driver guide, who will transfer you to visit the twin Lakes enroute. Then later arrive in the Lodge later in the evening  for dinner and an overnight sleep.

However, you can visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for a 2 hour experience, where you will be Invited to join local songs and drumming performances, along with simple traditional food with locals. This is a good opportunity to learn about Rwanda’s culture, customs and history.

Then use local lunch and return to Kigali after lunch, having a beautiful un winding view of the country side. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 11: Fly to Burundi

Have a relaxed breakfast, then after proceed for a Kigali city tour to visit attractions such as  Genocide memorial sites, the major markets, crafts shops, museums among others, if time allows. From here, proceed to Kigali International Airport for your flight to Buumbura.

You will arrive in time for dinner and an overnight at your hotel.

Day 12: City tour

You will be briefed about your Burundi safari, upon meeting your private driver guide at Bujumura international Airport. Afterwards, embark on your safari drive to explore the beautiful city of Bujumbura, before arriving  for dinner and an overnight at the hotel.

Day 13: Transfer – Rusizi National Park

A delicious breakfast will be served before you break off for  Rusizi National Park exploration, to catch sight of the awaiting Wildlife including crocodiles, hippos, various species of bird species.  From here, find your way back to the hotel,  and later in the afternoon , proceed to visit the Livingstone Stanley Monument- a memorial stone site where Stanley and David Livingstone met in the past years, then to zoo to watch the various reptiles that call the Burundi home.

Day 14: Discover the Source of the Nile

After breakfast, and take the drive to explore the source of River Nile in the southern Part of the region. Then after, proceed to visit the houses of former 3 presidents of Burundi including Buyoya, Micombero, and Bagaza, to explore their ancestral homes, followed by a lunch break at Buyoya Guest House in Ruvubu. In the afternoon, you will proceed to witness the falls in Rutuna before setting back to the hotel in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay at your hotel.

Day 15: Visit Gitega National Museum and Ruvubu National Park

Have breakfast and embark on your drive to Gitega to explore the treasures preserved in the National Museum, and continue to Ruvubu National Park, reaching in perfect time  for lunch, followed by an exciting game drive to sight buffaloes, elephants, among other wildlife. Later, return to your hotel for a delightful dinner and a restful night.

Day 16: Chimpanzee tracking Kibira National Park

Start your  day 5 with a hearty breakfast and then head to Kibira National Park via Muyinga, traversing through Ngozi and Kayanza, arriving in perfect time for lunch. Afterwards, reach out  for a an awe-inspiring forest walk which offers an authentic chance to encounter primates such as colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, and golden monkeys. Head back to your accommodation for a delicious dinner and a peaceful overnight stay.

Day 17: Rasarenda Falls & Inangururire Caves

The morning drive to Kibira Forest National Park in Teza allows you to discover the natural wonders of Rasarenda Falls and the impressive Inangururire Caves. Explore the magnificent landscapes and geological formations, after then proceed for dinner and overnight at Bugarama.

Day 18: Transfer – Bujumbura

In the morning,  take a return drive to Bujumbura, where you will proceed to your hotel to have lunch. Unwind and relax for lunch as you reflect on the previous experience, as you wait for dinner and an overnight rest.
