Gorilla trekking in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park allows you to trek 1 of the habituated gorilla families, including Susa, Igisha, Karisimbi, Sabyinyo, Amahoro, Agashya, Kwitonda, Umubano, Hirwa, Bwenge, Ugyenda and Muhoza.
Volcanoes National Park covers an area of 62 square miles (160 sq km), and forms a border with Mgahinga gorilla National Park of Uganda and Congo’s Virunga National Park. The park also has 5 out of 8 volcanoes of the vast Virunga Mountains such as Mount Muhabura, Karismbi, Bisoke, Sabinyo & Gahinga.

Itinerary of the 3 Days Gorilla Trekking Safari Rwanda
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes national park
Today you will be met by our driver-guide from the airport on arrival or hotel or wherever you will be. With him, you will start your 3 days Rwanda Gorilla safari with a short Kigali city tour to the best historic and cultural sites including the Kandt National Museum, Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, Craft markets in Kigali, presidential museum depending on your time schedule.
With the knowledge of your meal preference, you will have lunch in the city, after which you proceed with you journey to the natural home of the famous mountain Gorillas in Volcanoes national Park in Ruhengeri.
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes national park
On day 2 of the 3 days Rwanda Gorilla Safari, you will wake up early for breakfast, and yoiur driver guide will drive you to Kinigi headquarters, where you will be briefed by an experienced & skilled ranger guide about Mountain Gorilla trekking regulations and the expectations in the Volcanoes national Park.
You will be placed in a group of 8 trekkers for a particular gorilla family and be led by a guide to the jungle to look for the mountain gorillas. Depending on the gorilla family and how far they may have moved from the previous spot, gorilla trekking may last for about 2 to 8 hours including 1 full hour of face to face contact with them. In the meantime while with them, you can take as much photos as you can, watch them play, feed among other activities, and after return to your lodge for lunch.
If You still have much time, you can choose between Spending your time at the lodge relaxing or visiting the Musanze caves or otherwise the twin lakes.
Day 3: Gorilla Guardians village & Departure
On this day 3 of the 3 days Rwanda Gorilla safari, you will set off for an awe-inspiring cultural experience to glimpse the culture at the Iby’iwacu cultural village, to learn much about the history and culture of the Rwandan culture.
You will also learn that part of people living within the village were once poachers whose entire lives was attached to the forest. However, through sharing of the cultural experiences, the village now contributes heavily to the conservation of the Mountains gorillas
The driver will then drop you at your hotel in Kigali or to the airport to catch up with your flight back home. If you missed the city tour on day 1, you will have it on this day before departure.
