Detailed 8 Days Lowland gorillas, mountain gorillas & Nyiragongo Congo Safari

Day 1: Pick-up -Transfer to Kahuzi Biega National park(Bukavu)

According to the time & meeting point of pick up, your private driver guide, will arrive in time a 7 hour transfer via Nyungwe National Park, which boasts beautiful rolling hills in Rusizi. Enroute, you will stop for snacks & lunch, arriving in perfect time at the border for registration to cross over from Cyangugu to Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Thereafter proceed further to Kahuzi Biega National Park, where you will head straight to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight.

Day 2: Eastern Lowland gorilla trekking In Kahuzi Biega National Park

Breakfast will be served on time, after which, you will set off for approximately 45 minutes drive to Kahuzi Biega National Park headquarters for Eastern lowland gorilla trekking guidelines by the guides & rangers. Shortly after, the enthusiastic walk to find the intelligent Eastern lowland gorillas in Kahuzi, where you might set your eyes on several animals, birds, and primates en route. The search for these Eastern Lowland Gorillas may last for about 6 hours of encounter, following on their location, group strength and clients activities withing the jungle.

Return after the excursion to meet up with your driver guide, to head back to your accommodation.

Day 3: Boat ride to Goma and Transfer to Mikeno Lodge

After a hearty breakfast, early in the morning, set off for a speedboat ride from Bukavu, reach after 3 hours in Goma. Proceed to Grande Barriere boder crossing, documentation, then check in with the Virunga tourism Office for Mountain gorilla trekking permits, which just adjacent to the Passport control within the same environment.

You will then be transferred to Mikeno Lodge, which is established at the Park headquarters in Rumangabo. Lunch will be served, then followed by an afternoon rest, or you can opt for either to go birding.

Dinner will be served early so that you can rest in preparation for the next day’s adventure

Day 4: First Mountain Gorilla Trek In Virunga National Park

Mikeno Lodge will provide a delectable breakfast, after then, you will depart for Bukima Ranger Post for gorilla trekking and meeting up with your Ranger guides, before heading for gorilla trekking. Unlike Uganda & Rwanda, Virunga’s Mountain Gorilla trekking is less difficult, which may just last between 1- 3 hours of trekking each day, and the rest of the day, will be left for other activities like Nature walks, and bird watching

Lunch, Dinner & Overnight at Mikeno Lodge

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking

Rise up early to join with the Researchers by 6:00 am, to go search for the Chimpanzees. This incredible experience, offers an opportunity to all guests to interact and spend time with the chimpanzees in the Forest of Mahura nearby Rumangabo. You will head back to the lodge for late breakfast, then later unwind in the lodge until the perfect time for dinner, followed by an overnight rest.

Day 6: Second Mountain Gorilla Trekking In Virunga national Park

Set off early for another Mountain gorilla trekking which kicks off at 8:30 a.m. You will be assigned another gorilla trekking family, after which you will return for lunch at Bukima camp. The driver will then take you back to Mikeno Lodge to relax, as you have enough time to prepare for the 2 day hike to Mount Nyiragongo or you can proceed to spend your evening with the orphaned Gorillas in Senkwekwe Center.

Day 7: Nyiragongo hike

At the break of dawn, transfer to Goma, at Grande Barriere to connect with other Nyiragongo volcano climbing groups. The climb to the summit will last approximately 5hrs, where you will enjoy magnificent views of the Lava Lake, and spend your night in a 2 man cabin.

Day 8: Descend Nyiragongo & transfer to Kigali

An energetic delicious breakfast will be served early, so that you can embark on your trek down the slopes of Mount Nyiragongo, reaching Bukima by 11:00 am, for your early departure back to Kigali, where you will arrive in the evening, either at your hotel or flight back to your home
