Detailed 8 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking, Nyiragongo & Okapi Safaris
Day 1: Transfer from Goma in D.R. Congo
Meet up with your safari guide at Goma International Airport, with whom you will hit the wide open road Virunga National Park, arriving at either Bukima tented Camp or Mikeno lodge for Dinner, then an early overnight rest.
Note:We urge all travelers to use Ethiopian Airways offering flights to Democratic Republic Of Congo, and get us notified, earlier prior to their flight dates, so as to arrange for their visas that will validate them for the amount of time they would wish to stay in the country. Ethiopia Airways offer flights to Congo, only once per week, otherwise, clients can also alternate and opt to be picked from Kigali and dropped there.
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking In Virunga National Park
Like Volcanoes national Park of Rwanda and Mgahinga National Park of Uganda, Virunga National Park who forms borders with them protects numerous numbers of habituated Mountain Gorillas Families, that are ready to be trekked by Gorilla adventure enthusiasts.
That said, you will be assigned a mountain gorilla family to trek, when you arrive in the morning for the Gorilla trekking experience in Virunga national Park. It usually takes a full hour drive from Mikeno lodge or Bukima tented camp to the park headquarters in Rumangabo. Trekking Mountain gorillas in this hub, can take from 1 hour up to 5 hours, and upon finding them, you will have incredible moment sharing an eye lock with them, seeing most of them jump or play with each other, among many daily activities.
Head back to meet the driver guide, who will then take you back to the lodge, for dinner, and a peaceful rest overnight
Day 3: Climb Nyiragongo Volcano in Virunga National Park
Breakfast will be served, after then you will head towards the starting point of climbing Nyiragongo. Trekking guidelines will be offered to all clients by the rangers and guides, at same time intervals when registration will be taking place. Along with the expert Nyiragongo Volcano guide, you will proceed for a 5 hour trek up the summit of the Nyiragongo Volcano, where you will enjoy the magnificient sight of the boiling lava at the crater, as well as spending an overnight in one of the cabins, after adelectable dinner.
Day 4: Descend Nyiragongo Volcano .
A good morning breakfast will be served at 0500hrs, then after head over to view the beautiful scenery of the Lava Lake, before begin descending down the foothills of Nyiragongo Volcano, to be transferred for lunch. You will have guide nature walk late in the evening walk to visit the nearby villages to interact with the local people or either a nature walk.
Day 5 – 6 Day: Transfer to Epulu
After breakfast, hit the wide Open road via Beni road to your booked accommodation in Beni. Epulu is an awesome refuge for several numbers of Okapis. Okapis are close relatives to giraffes with unique decorated stripes and rare markings, which usually changes when hiding from predators in dense rainforest.
Day 7: Visit Okapi in Okapi Wildlife Reserve
Following your breakfast early in the morning, embark on your drive to Okapi Wildlife Reserve with lunch enroute. Upon arrival, you will go after a group of Okapi into the dense forest, then head to spend the night around the camp fire inside pitched tents. Your night will be filled with unending beautiful hunting stories of the pygmies, in their village.
Day 8: Return to Entebbe Airport.
In the morning, set out for your drive via Beni, to Butembo, which exits out to Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda, reaching Entebbe in the evening to catch up with your flight
