8 days Lemosho route

Day 0: Arrival in Tanzania

On arrival,  you will meet with Aloyo Safaris expert safari guide, who will  brief you about your 8 days Kilimanjaro Lemosho route adventure, and transfer you to your booked lodge in Moshi. In the evening, you will  arrange your necessary gear for your mount Kilimanjaro hike, while tghose that are missing can be hired before the hiking date.

Day 1: Lemosho Glades (2385meters) to Big Tree Camp (2780meters)

In the morning, you will be picked from your hotel instantly after breakfast. You will be transferred to Lemosho  Londorossi gate on the western side of Kilimanjaro.  At this point, you make all the necessary registration , after then you will start ascending upwards through the forests of the Lemosho glades to reach Big Tree camp where you will have dinner and an overnight rest.

Day 2: Big Tree Camp (2780meters) to Shira 1 Camp (3900meters)

Following your hearty breakfast, you will trek across the rain forest and into the savannah of tall grasses, heather and volcanic rock covered with lichen beards. You will arrive at Shira 1 Camp from where magnificent views of Kibo Peak  are clearly seen. Dinner and over night in the camp

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3500meters) to Shira 2 Camp (3960meters)

Wake up early for breakfast and depart from Shira 1 Camp (3,500 meters) to Shira 2 camp (3,900). This trek is less challenging, offering beautiful views of Africa and the unique flora of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding area. Shira 2 Camp is the best place on the trip to view Mount Meru (the fifth summit of Africa) when the skies are clear. Upon arrival, you will have lunch, afterwards lunch, and after a two-hour rest everyone you will continue with an acclimatization hike towards Lava Tower Camp that features a 200meter gain in altitude.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3900meters) to Barranco Camp (3960meters)

Your trek starts with a descent far reaching the breathtaking views, trekking through the climatic zone of the upland desert and on the lava ridges below the glaciers of the Western Breach. You will reach the different peak of the Lava Tower (4640 m), the highest point for the day and a great for a lunch break. Afterwards, you will embark on a steep descent to Baranco camp where you will have dinner and an overnight sleep.

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3960m) to Karanga Camp (3963m)

On this day 5 of the 8 days lemosho route, you will have a relatively short day trek to reach Karanga Camp, after overcoming the most challenging Barranco Wall.  You will be forced to use all your hands & legs to climb through the wall of the Karanga Valley, after which you will follow a path that crosses through many inclines and declines to Karanga Camp. You will arrive in Karanga Camp in the Late afternoon. Karanga Camp is strategically – situated at an altitude  that’s essential for safe acclimatization. Sunsets here are incredibly beautiful with breathtaking views of the southern glacial valleys and ice fields soaring over 3000 feet above you.

Day 6: Karanga Camp (3963meters) to Barafu Camp (4640meters)

You will wake up early for breakfast, thereafter you will start your ascent to Barafu Camp,  where you will walk through disolate scree slopes with scarce vegetation. The trek is quite challenging due to the altitude. Upon reaching, you will have now finished the southern circuit, which offers magnificent views of the summit from various angles. You will be served dinner early enough, as you prepare for the summit. Overnight at Barafu Camp.

Day 7: Barafu Camp (4640meters) to UHURU PEAK (5895meters) to Mweka Camp (3100meters)

Have breakfast very early at midnight, thereafter embark on your summit trek, where you will climb between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You will trek through the North Western direction, and hike steeply through heavy scree towards Stella Point at the edge of the crater rim. This is probably the  most mentally and physically difficult part of the trek.

You will stop for a lunch break at Stella point(18,600 ft), where you will be rewarded with most stunning views of the sunrise, on a clear day. There is a probability that you might experience a little bit of snow to the summit during your 1 hr ascent to Uhuru peak-“The roof of Africa” from Stella point.

After spending great moments at the peak, you will then embark on your descent to Mweka hut, with an enroute lunch stop over at Barafu.

 

You will want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down.

Mweka Camp is located in the upper forest and mist and sometimes rains can be expected in the late afternoon. You will arrive in the late afternoon for dinner and the overnight at Mweka camp.

Day 8: Trek Mweka Camp (3100m) to Mweka Gate (1630m)

Following your relaxed morning breakfast, you will descend gently through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you will receive your 8 days Kilimanjaro trekking certificate, and later on sign out. Our driver guide will pick you up and drop you off at your reserved hotel.
