7 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Machame Route

Day 1: Arusha to Machame Camp

This morning you will be transferred from Arusha to Mt Kilimanjaro National Park, driving through Machame village to Machame Gate to meet other s with who you will climb Kilimnajaro.   Upon starting your gentle ascent, the trail bends through the rich afro-montane rainforest that breeds Kilimanjaro’s lower slopes to the first camp amongst giant heather at Machame Camp, where  you will have dinner & overnight.

Day 2: Machamae Camp  to  Shira Camp. 4-6 hours

You will depart for shira camp after your morning breakfast. Leaving behind the glades of the rainforest, you continue climbing up along a steep ridge onto heather-clad moorland. You enjoy your enroute lunch, afterwards you  will ascend further up a rocky ridge onto the Shira Plateau. At this point, you will be able to view the Western Breach alongside its magnificent glaciers, and after a short climb you reach the Shira Camp, for dinner and an overnight rest.  Luckily, you will be able to view the snow-dusted Kibo peaks.

Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp  (Lava Tower) 6-8 hours

On this day, you have breakfast, then ascend into the alpine desert towards the main peak of Kibo, where the western glaciers are clearly seen. Enjoy your enroute lunch, and later ascend a 300-foot-tall Lava Tower, then slope down to Barranco Camp in the afternoon, traversing through the strange yet spectacular ‘Garden of the Senecios’ (giant groundsel), which consists of many giant lobelias. The Barranco Valley is one of most spectacular areas of the entire trail. Dinner & overnight at Barranco Camp.

Day 4: Barranco to Karanga Camp   (4-5 hours)

On day 4 of the 7 days Machame Kilimanjaro route, You will have a short day to reach Karanga Camp, after over coming the intimidating Barranco Wall. You will follow a path that passes through various  inclines and declines to Karanga Camp. You will arrive late in the late afternoon. Sunsets here are extremely beautiful with views of the southern glacial valleys and ice fields towering over 3000 feet above you. Overnight at Karanga Camp.

Day 5:  Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp  (4-5 hours)

On this day, you also have half day trek climbing up to Barafu Camp, to allow more time to relax, in preparation for the next day Kilimanjaro summit. Desolate alpine desert, sometimes, strong winds rip over this camp, yet in the evenings breathtaking views of Mawenzi Peak are the norm.  You will have an early dinner and an overnight rest at Barafu Camp.

Day 6: Summit Ascent to Mweka Camp

Following your morning breakfast, set off for the final summit bid. Patience and persistence “Pole Pole” as said  in  Kiswahili is the name of game to reach Kilimanjaro Peak, and this is the most cold & windy region of your trekking. Most likely by dawn, as the sun rises across the Tanzanian landscape, you will reach nearby the edge at Stella Point, at an altitude of 18,652ft. Here, you will enjoy an amazing view of the sunrising over Mawenzi Peak.

 

Trekking via Stella Point offers a relatively short final section to Uhuru Peak-the Roof of Africa! Where you will take as many pictures as you can!

Thereafter begin descending down, trekking as you enjoy the glorious rainforest scenery as you head towards Mweka Camp, reaching there before dusk. Dinner & overnight Mweka Camp.

Day 7:  Arrive in Arusha 12,467 ft to 5,380 ft, 6 miles, 3-4 hours

Have breakfast, and descend once again through montane forest and exit the park by midday. Our safari guide will then pick you and transfer you tour immediate lodge in Arusha
