Detailed Itinerary for 3 days Mahoma Loop Trekking Rwenzori

Day 1: Kasese-Park gate -Omukakiiza

Following your morning breakfast at the hotel, you will be picked by your guide who will lead you to the Rwenzori Mountains National Park Head Quarters at Nyakalengija, 1.646 m.

You will be briefed about  the regulation of the hike, after which the hike embark on your hike through the plantations and homes of the Bakonzo, (the people of the mountain), where you will gradually reach the garden plots and elephants grass and then connect to the forest zone.

This takes further through the lush rainforest of kyambogo ridge with a view of the Mubuku Valley then climb the thick forested ridge which is home to primates, such as black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and the L’hoest monkey, then proceed further to Omu’kaKizza Rest Camp at 2,977metres. Here you will be rewarded by the most beautiful views over the Rwenzori foothills and Kasese town 2,160 metres below.

Day 2: Omukakizi To Mahoma Lake Camp

On day 2 of the 3 days Mahoma loop trek,  you climb  up Mahoma Lake, where  the forest gives leads to narrow moss covered ridge up to 3,515 metres through a beautiful forest of giant heather covered in layers of bright green moss. You will follow the footprints of mountain Elephants through the bamboo and heather forest, as you spot them having a drink at the hot springs.

The ridge will lead you to the Rukenga valley where you will see the everlasting flowers (mimulopsis eliotti) and the giant lobelia. You then head to Mahoma lake Camp for dinner & overnight. From Mahoma lake if the sky is clear you will be able to see Mt.Baker, Mt.Stanley and the Portal Peaks.

Day 3: Depart For Nyakalengija(Kasese town)

Wake up early for breakfast, and descend down wallking around the lake, thereafter you will continue through Nyabitaba ranger post and the Mpanga ridge to adjoin the Mubuku valley, a home of three horned chameleon. After a rest in Nyabitaba, trek down further to Nyakalengija/Kasese town to receive a certificate issued out by the Rwenzori Mountaineering Service.
