Getting To Rwenzori Mountains National Park

Domestic flights (Air transport) and  road transport are the 2 ways to get to Rwenzori mountains National Park. The best convenient & fast way to get to Rwenzori Mountains National Park is via a domestic flight from Entebbe International Airport  or Kajjansi Airstrip (Kampala ) to Kasese Airstrip, followed by a 40 minutes’ drive to Rwenzori Mountain National Park. Yet by road, you can drive (or be driven) from Entebbe/Kampala  to Fort Portal or Kampala to Kasese  via Mbarara on self drive or By public means.

Rwenzori Mountains National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is located in South Western Uganda in the east side of the Western African Rift Valley. Rwenzori Mountains National park, forms an international border with Virunga National Park in Democratic Republic Of Congo. The Rwenzori Mountains are also located just 50km from Queen Elizabeth National Park, and Kibale forest national Park.

Fly to Rwenzori Mountains National Park By Air/Flight From Kampala & Congo

Chartered Flights to Kasese Airstrip are organized and managed by Aerolink Uganda Ltd. They operate 2 flights daily, with the first one departing at 0700 hours and the second at 12:00 noon. Flying from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip is the quickest & reliable option  to reach Kasese Airstrip, as it takes between 1 ½ or 2 hours to reach Kasese Airstrip, which means, less time is spent for transfer to a 4-5 hours drive.

How To Get by Road From Kampala

There are 2 routes used for travelers to reach Kasese. First, it takes about 5-6 hours drive by bus (public means) or by a private(on self-drive or guided tour) to access Kasese  from Kampala/Entebbe. The shortest route starts from Kampala, then follows a 300km distance via Mubende to Fort portal, whereas the longest route follows a 350km distance via Masaka through Mbarara, Bushenyi to Kasese from Kampala.

Getting to Rwenzori Mountains National Park

The 2nd route offers an astounding break stops at the equator for a beautiful photo shoot, and experiencing the Northern & Southern hemisphere.

Traveling by road from Kampala to Kasese can best be done by a 4×4 (highly recommended), because of a few bumpy roads to the Rwenzori Mountains National Park. However most of the road network is justly tarmacked and in reasonably fair condition. Fuel is usually available in all  in Uganda towns, and  one can easily download app to get the right direction.

How To Get Rwenzori Mountains National Park from Congo

Rwenzori Mountains National Park can also been reached by road from the Democratic Republic of Congo, from Goma.  Upon pick up from Goma international Airport, You will be be transfered by road to Beni, after then proceed to Kasindi-the beginning point for trekking Rwenzori mountain National Park in Virunga National Park

While those starting from starting from Kigali, follow the route to Gisenyi to enter Congo, then proceed to Beni. There after you can proceed for to the starting point at Kasindi
